Statement: PDE Action Supports Sen. Tim Sheehy’s Companion Bill to H.R. 8747: The K-12 AI Literacy and Readiness Act

Parents Defending Education Action is pleased to support Sen. Tim Sheehy’s companion bill to Rep. Fine’s K-12 AI Literacy and Readiness Act, H.R. 8747, which promotes the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.

It is imperative that we begin preparing our students and educators now for increasingly sophisticated AI technologies that will become part of our daily lives in the coming years. The K-12 AI Literacy and Readiness Act will give schools the flexibility to direct existing resources to address a universal concern in our education system – the safe and effective use of artificial intelligence. By introducing this companion bill, Sen. Sheehy recognizes that the unprecedented pace of technological advancement in artificial intelligence necessitates a rapid deployment of training resources to our schools.

This is not a partisan issue and should not be treated as such. We implore the House and Senate to expedite passage of this common-sense legislation and deliver it to President Trump for his signature.
