PDE Action Endorses Senator Tim Scott’s ‘PROTECT’ Kids Act

September 20, 2022

Across the country, school districts are adopting gender policies that demonize parents and exclude them from vital information about their child’s mental health and wellbeing.

Often, these student policies explicitly encourage school staff to withhold information from parents about their child’s preferred name and pronouns, which restroom and locker room facility their child will use, or with whom their child will be housed on overnight field trips. While the policies encourage teachers to call a child by his or her preferred name and pronouns in class, they direct school staff to use the child’s given name, and the pronouns matching the child’s biological sex, in communications with parents as to not reveal his or her “gender identity.”

Today, PDE Action proudly endorses Senator Tim Scott’s Parental Rights Over the Education and Care of Their (PROTECT) Kids Act, which aims to block federal funding to schools that conceal a child’s decision to transition sexes from his or her parents.

Parents have the right and responsibility to direct their child’s moral upbringing. It’s unconscionable that school officials have sought to usurp this fundamental right.

PDE Action commends Senator Scott’s efforts to hold public officials accountable for undermining American families and applauds his unwavering commitment to parental rights.
