HALL MONITOR: “YES” to Save Women’s Sports in Ohio (HB 6)
Name: Ohio House Bill 6, the Save Women’s Sports Act
Summary: Protects women from competing against biological males in athletic competitions.
Status: This bill was added into House Bill 68, a bill that would have protected minors from accessing drugs to stop puberty or transition to the opposite sex. Governor Mike DeWine vetoed that bill in January 2023.
Primary sponsors: Representative Jena Powell
Breakdown: Ohio House Bill 6 would protect women and girls from competing against biological males in sports. The bill separates athletic competition in higher education by biological sex.
Why does PDE Action support this bill?
Unfortunately, in the name of “inclusion,” many states have begun allowing biological males who identify as women to compete in women’s sports. This has unfortunately led to repeated injuries for women athletes. Studies have shown that biological males—even those who undergo hormone replacement therapy—retain physical advantages over their female competitors.
It is vital for the health and safety of women and girls to ensure that athletic competitions are separated by sex, as House Bill 6 would ensure.
